We would like to wish all of our customers and friends a wonderful New Year and a hope for health, happiness and prosperity for everyone.
Please remember that our hours will be changing effective January 9th. We will be closed on Wednesdays instead of Mondays for the next few months. The rest of our hours remain the same as before.
We received the greatest Christmas present of all. On Friday, December 23rd our 3rd grandchild was born. Sawyer Allan James weighed 8 pounds 10 ounces. Mom and baby are both doing great and were home in time for Christmas.
We have two in-store workshops scheduled in the month of March. First is a dollhouse miniatures workshop with Julie Dewar of Westwinds Miniatures on Saturday, March 10th, from 10 am to 4 pm. In this workshop you will learn how to enhance an elegant window bench and create a ladies silk hat.
The second workshop is our very popular HO Diorama Workshop with Ted Rafuse. This is the 4th running of this workshop and it always fills quickly as there are only six seats available. It runs for three Saturdays in March with a fourth date to be determined. Check our Workshops page for all of the details.
As mentioned in our previous What's New, we will be attending the Peterborough Canoe Museum's open house on Sunday, January 9th. We previously listed an incorrect time for this event. It actually runs from noon until 5 pm and admission to the museum is free to all. They will be featuring "Hobbies in Miniature", including dollhouses, model trains, boats, cars, etc. Hope to see you there.

We have recently had some inquiries about assembling model structure kits made of hydrocal plaster. I tracked down this how to webpage by hydrocal kits manufacturer Downtown Deco. Who better to look to than the actual manufacturer on tips on how to assemble, paint and weather hydrocal kits? We hope this answers all of your questions.
We have been informed by the CHRA (formerly the CN Lines SIG) that they have decided to delay the publishing of their first installment of the book Canadian National Railways Diesel locomotives as they are awaiting some never before seen photographs. Publication should commence in the early spring so as a result we will continue to take pre-orders for both volumes. They sell for $54.95 each. Let us know if we can reserve one for you.
Also announced is a new HO CN Dash 8-40C from Atlas. These will be available in both CD and DCC with sound versions. They will come in both regular CN paint scheme (#2120 & 2127) as well as a 15th anniversary edition (#2113 & 2115). The prices (which are subject to change) are $170 for DC and $275 for DCC. Atlas hopes to release them by the second quarter of this year. We have pre-ordered some for the store but can still take Special Order requests until the end of this month.

We would like to wish all of our customers and their families a wonderful Christmas season and all the best in the New Year.
Please make note of our new store hours coming in the New Year.
Effective January 2nd they will be as follows;
Monday/Tuesday/Thursday/Friday/Saturday - 10 am to 5 pm
Sunday - Noon to 4 pm
Wednesday - Closed
The biggest change is that we will be Open Mondays and Closed on Wednesdays.
Our Holiday schedule will be;

Come and visit us at the Canadian Canoe Museum in Peterborough on Sunday, January 8th from 10 am to 5 pm. These Georgian style house and basement kits have been assembled for you. They have been primed throughout and have been prepped for wiring with the exterior finished in neutral tones. It is all ready for you to install your fixtures and apply your choice of interior finishes to the floors, walls, trim, etc.
The house has eight well appointed rooms on three levels with a large central winding staircase with generous halls. The basement has two large rooms and a hall for the downstairs staff. The exterior has wooden windows and doors with etched stonework on the facade with a courtyard.

Store hour changes - We are now open every day until Christmas!
The holidays are fast approaching as well as the deadlines for special ordering items to be here in time for the season. Please let us know if there is anything we can bring in for that special hobbyist on your gift list.
And speaking of gift lists...we are again offering our Christmas Gift List Registry. Come on in and tell us what you would like to see under your tree on Christmas morning and we will make sure that your special shopping elves know about it. Ask us for details.
Two of our regular magazines have come into the store with a local flavour. Canadian Rail Magazine, Sept/Oct 2011 issue has an in depth article by Ted Rafuse about the history and future of the Cobourg trains station.
And the current issue of Canadian Railway Modelers, Train18/Track 2 features an article and cover picture of Jim Kemp's O scale TH&B layout.
Both Jim and Ted are well known local modelers and railway historians.
We now have the O scale consignment priced and available for sale. Many of the pieces were showcased at the Soper Valley Train Show and some of have been sold. Please check the attached documents (page 1 - page 2) for descriptions and prices. We will also have some of the items with us at the upcoming Pineridge Show on November 19th & 20th.

Show season is starting again for us with the Soper Valley Model Train show in Bowmanville on October 15th/16th. Check our Show Calendar page for all of the upcoming shows we attend.
It is also Slot Car Racing season again. This year racing will be held in the store on Sunday afternoons. Drop in to see the newly redesigned track and talk to the racers. The official start to the season will be Sunday, October 16th, from 1:00 till 3:00 pm.

Our Carrera slot car sale has been extended to the end of September to give everyone a chance to stock up on some great deals. All in stock cars and sets are 25% off until September 30th. All sales are final and club discounts do not apply. This is a great chance to get started in the hobby. While in the store, check the latest catalogue for all the great items coming in the fall/winter.
Speaking of slot car racing, our Race League will not be running on Tuesday nights this year, however all racers, new and old, are invited to the store on Sunday afternoons for exciting race action. We have redesigned the store track into a smaller racing oval to allow for different events, such as time trials and team endurance racing. More information to follow regarding start date and rules. In the mean time all are welcome to come in and try out the new track layout.
The 2011 Volume 2 Lionel product catalogue is now in the store. Drop by for your own free copy. We are also in the process of adding an in store Lionel layout for customers to test locomotives and try out exciting O scale high rail operations.
The 2011/2012 Dolls House Emporium Catalogue has been released. We currently have one store copy. Drop by and check out all of the new additions to the line. We should be placing our next order by the end of September and will have individual copies available in the store after that.
We have added the Exact Rail line of products to model railroad lineup. This fine scale line of HO and N scale rolling stock is relatively new to the market and is impressing hobbyists both old and new. We will be placing our initial order this month so please let us know if there are particular items that you are interested in and we will try to order it for you.

The special interest group which now call themselves the Canadian National Railways Historical Association (CNRHA), with the co-operation of the Canadian Science and Technology Museum, has announced the impending release of their new books, Canadian National Railways Diesel Locomotives. There will be two volumes and the first is due out in December of 2011. The second is scheduled for December of 2012. These books will be printed in very limited quantities. We are currently taking preorders for both volumes. The MSRP is $54.95 + tax for each hardbound copy.
Rapido Trains has extended the ordering deadline for The Canadian set.
They have also announced the release of other versions. If you are interested in pre-ordering this spectacular set orders must be in no later than August 5th. Please note that we require a 50% deposit on all orders for The Canadian (MSRP $1499.00 + tax).
They have also extended the ordering deadline for the FP9A's until August 5th. A 25% deposit is required for this locomotive.

Workshop time is here again!
We are pleased to welcome back Jacey Culham for two workshops again this spring.
The first is on Saturday, April 16th where you can learn the skills necessary to make a wonderful spaghetti dinner using polymer clays, resin and many techniques from this talented artisan.
And on Saturday, May 14th you will learn to create a beautiful pastry case full of your own pastries and sweet treats.
Check the Workshops page for full details, but don't delay as these dates are filling up already and space is limited.
The 2011 Canadian Trackside Guide is now available. After taking a year off, Bytown has once again published this informative book, most likely on a bi-annual basis. The price is $27.75 + tax.
The 2011 Hornby catalogue is now in the store and we have received the new Pullman Observation car as well as a few of the Limited Edition locomotives.

HO/N - Classic Metal Works is again releasing new Mini Metals. In stock now are the '53 Ford Squire "Woody" wagon in several colours. More new releases are expected in the coming months.
All scales - We have started carrying the EZ Wire line of telephone and cable lines. These are available in two thickness and five different colours. They come in black, white, rust, green (oxidized copper) and rope.
They work perfectly with the newly released Osborne Scale Models new telephone pole kits, which are available in N, HO and O scales.
